The Sustainable Iowa Land Trust (SILT) is being formed in late 2014 by some of the key leaders in Iowa sustainable agriculture in the last four decades. Their concern: land for local fruit, vegetable and small livestock production will soon disappear from our landscape.

What does this mean to the local food consumer? Someday your farmer will have to choose between a 3-hour drive to sell you a tomato or finding another line of work to feed her family.

We don’t want that day to come, but it will soon be upon us. Here’s why.

SILT is the nonprofit solution to maintaining that flow of healthy, fresh local food to farmers markets, local food cooperatives and regional grocery stores.

Are you interested in protecting your land from development or the thousand-acre farm next to you? Contact us. We’d be glad to talk with you.
